4:05 – Monique Ryan’s projected lead in Kooyong has shrunk from about 900 votes on Monday evening to just 405 today.

4:02 – In Bullwinkel, Labor’s projected lead has grown from 467 to 608 with more absent and pre-poll votes expected and very few postal votes left to count.

Close seats tracking, part 2

For tonight’s update, I’m going to first touch on the races I included in this morning’s post and how they have changed. Those are the seats that are conventional close races.

Then I will turn my focus to the seats where the two-candidate-preferred count has been recalibrated to a different pair of candidates. In these seats there has been some significant progress today towards resolving these seats.

Polls have just closed on the east coast.

You can discuss the election results here tonight.

I won’t be liveblogging tonight – I’ll be helping with the ABC’s election coverage. But I’ll be back on Sunday with some written analysis and a podcast.

I suspect the website may struggle with traffic tonight, but I am just going to let it cope as best it can.

How wide is the hung parliament zone?

Primary votes for major parties have hit a record low, and they may break that record this weekend. There are also more crossbenchers in the House of Representatives than ever before, with numerous other credible candidates threatening to produce an even larger crossbench in the new parliament. Certainly there is a lot of talk about a hung parliament.
